Years ago, my friends and I went on a climbing adventure, and to make it more meaningful, we agreed to pack food, clothing, medicines, lamps, and other things that we thought we could contribute to the mountain community.

At first, we were a bit upset on our climb because we were only able to solicit and gather small amounts of food and medicines. Despite this, we remained hopeful that it would be enough, and we entrusted everything to God. After hours of hiking, we arrived at the base camp, and there, many people greeted us. We became more hesitant to give what we brought because we think that it will not be enough for them. As we unload the small provisions that we had, a group of climbers came to us and inquired if we had any ideas or plans for the community. So I told them about our plans, and they immediately offered to share those that they have brought with them. The small provision that we had was doubled! It was an answered prayer. It was God's providence.

In the Gospel, Jesus advised the twelve apostles as they embarked on their mission of evangelization, "Take nothing for the journey, neither walking stick, nor bag, nor food, nor money, and let no one take a second tunic (Luke 9:3)." Jesus was urging us not to rely on anyone but on Him because He will provide us with all our needs.

This is the challenge for all of us: we must rely only on God. If we continue to rely on ourselves, we cannot feel His majesty in our life. Let us hold firm to our faith, for God has abandoned no one who believed and followed Him.

Today's Gospel

Lk 9:1-6

Jesus summoned the Twelve and gave them power and authority
over all demons and to cure diseases,
and he sent them to proclaim the Kingdom of God
and to heal the sick.
He said to them, "Take nothing for the journey,
neither walking stick, nor sack, nor food, nor money,
and let no one take a second tunic.
Whatever house you enter, stay there and leave from there.
And as for those who do not welcome you,
when you leave that town,
shake the dust from your feet in testimony against them."
Then they set out and went from village to village
proclaiming the good news and curing diseases everywhere.
