MANILA, Philippines -- Vice President Leni Robredo has officially declared her bid to run as president for the 2022 elections.

The announcement was made Thursday morning, October 7. She is set to file her certificate of candidacy at Sofitel in the afternoon.

Robredo accepted the opposition coalition 1Sambayanan's endorsement for presidency.

"Lalaban ako. Lalaban tayo. Inihahain ko ang aking sarili bilang kandidato sa pagkapangulo sa halalan ng 2022."

Her announcement has been highly anticipated. After the announcement, #LabanLeni2022 tops Twitter Philippines' trending list.

Despite her office' limited budget, Robredo was able to initiate several programs and projects that would aid those who are deeply affected by the COVID19 pandemic, as well as victims of natural calamities, and also boosted vaccination rates in far-flung areas.

Robredo will face off once again former senator Bongbong Marcos in the presidential race. She defeated him in the vice presidential election in 2016 and in the electoral protest filed by Marcos before the Supreme Court. The high court also junked his appeal.

The Vice President earlier said she is ready for a head-to-head battle against Marcos.

Other aspirants who have filed a COC for president are Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, Senator Manny Pacquiao, and Senator Ping Lacson. The attempt to have a united opposition with these three hopefuls has fallen through despite the efforts of the Robredo camp.
