MANDALUYONG CITY -- The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) continues to provide much needed aid to communities in Batanes a month after being ravaged by Typhoon Kiko. PRC targets to help 500 families who were severely affected by the typhoon from the Municipalities of Basco, Uyugan, Mahatao, and Sabtang with plans of distributing shelter tool kits, tarpaulins for use as temporary shelter, Jerry cans with water tablets for safe drinking water, solar lamps, and flashlights in the coming weeks.
Days after TY Kiko ravaged Batanes, PRC immediately deployed relief items to the islands. Through the instructions of PRC Chairman and CEO, Sen. Dick Gordon, non-food items were shipped to Batanes. Additionally, the PRC Batanes Chapter also received a motorcycle, two (2) portable generator units, and solar lamps for their chapter activities and typhoon operations.
"Ang pagtulong ng Red Cross ay hindi titigil sa pag-alis ng bagyo. Lalo pa tayong tutulong upang makabangon ang ating mga kababayan sa Batanes, kaagapay ninyo ang Philippine Red Cross sa inyong pagbangon," said PRC Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon.
As of October 4, 2021, Red Cross already provided hot meals to 78 individuals involved in the clearing and repair operations of the electricity infrastructure as power lines went down during the typhoon. There are also 15 families from the communities who were contracted to the food-for-work program of PRC. These families are supporting the hauling of items for the recovery phase of PRC's operations. In the coming weeks, PRC intends to provide the most vulnerable families. (Philippine Red Cross)
