PASAY CITY -- Senator Christopher "Bong" Go continued to provide support to communities in distress around the country amid the challenges the country is facing during the COVID-19 pandemic. He also urged Filipinos to participate in the national immunization program in order to achieve population protection leading to herd immunity as soon as possible.

In his video message in two separate distribution activities at Barangays Colosas and Tapak, Davao City on Saturday, October 9, Go stressed that the government is constantly procuring vaccines for all eligible Filipinos, and he urged the people to get vaccinated as soon as they are eligible to boost their protection against the coronavirus.

"Mayroon lang ho kaming pakiusap ni Pangulong Duterte sa inyo, magtiwala ho kayo sa bakuna. Huwag ho kayong matakot sa bakuna, matakot ho kayo sa COVID-19. Ang bakuna po ang susi o solusyon para unti-unti na tayong makabalik sa ating normal na pamumuhay katulad po noon," Go appealed.

"Kailangan pong magtiwala kayo sa gobyerno dahil ginagawa po ng gobyerno ang lahat sa abot ng makakaya para po malampasan natin itong krisis na ito," he added.

Continuing his remarks, Go urged the beneficiaries and their loved ones with health concerns to take advantage of the medical assistance programs available in the Malasakit Center located at Southern Philippines Medical Center.

Part of his commitment as Chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography is to provide Filipinos convenient access to a quality healthcare system which is why the Senator pushed for the enactment of the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019.

The law directs the establishment of a Malasakit Center in every hospital run by the Department of Health and in the Philippine General Hospital to ensure that poor and indigent patients get the medical assistance they need.

"Mga kababayan ko, kung kailangan niyo po ng tulong sa pagpapa-opera sa Maynila, sa (Philippine) Heart Center, sa NKTI, bukas po ang aming tanggapan na tumulong po sa inyo sa abot ng aming makakaya," said Go.

The Malasakit Centers have now assisted more than three million Filipinos nationwide.

Meanwhile, Go's team organized the relief efforts for a total of 1,000 struggling residents. In addition, some beneficiaries brought home new pairs of shoes and bicycles that they can use.

Go also sent computer tablets to select recipients to aid their children during their classes under the blended learning set-up.

Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development gave financial assistance to each beneficiary to support them with their basic needs while the Department of Agriculture provided fresh vegetables.

The Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of Labor and Employment determined qualified recipients for their respective livelihood programs. Lastly, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority gave scholarship grants to chosen individuals based on its assessment.

To help the community recover from the challenges brought about by the global pandemic, Go, who also serves as Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, supported the concreting of footbridges in Brgy. Tibungco and the construction of drainage in Brgy. Mahayag. He likewise helped in the acquisition of ambulance units for Brgys. Gatungan, Mintal,and Buhangin, as well as in the improvement of roads, multipurpose buildings, and drainage systems in various barangays.

The senator then thanked Representatives Paolo Duterte and Vincent Garcia, Mayor Sara Duterte, Vice Mayor Sebastian Duterte, and other local and barangay officials for giving all necessary support to their constituents especially during these challenging times.

"Mga kababayan ko, mag-ingat po tayo. Magdasal po tayo, magtulungan po tayo, magbayanihan po tayo, magmalasakit po tayo sa ating kapwa Pilipino. Nandidito lang po kami ni Pangulong Duterte na handang magserbisyo po sa inyong lahat sa abot ng aming makakaya," he ended. (OSBG)
