MANILA, Philippines -- A day after filing his certificate of candidacy for the the nation's top post, Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos JR., revealed that he wanted President Duterte to be his running mate for the Vice Presidency.
The plan fell through when the incumbent president stated that he wanted to retire from politics after 2022.
"I'll be very candid. The reason for that is, the original plan was for us to adopt PRRD for our vice president candidate."

For now, the son of ousted dictator Ferdinand Marcos does not have a running mate. However, possible alliances with Senator Bong Go, long-time aide to President Duterte, is possible. Marcos also mentioned that a possible political partnership with Sara Duterte, the president's daughter and current mayor of Davao City, has stalled since the mayor recently filed her COC for reelection as Davao City mayor.
NTC Probe on Marcos emergency text alert
During Marcos' filing of his COC, individuals who were present at Sofitel's Harbor Garden Tent reported that they received an emergency mobile alert message.
The emergency alert was considered a promotion of Marcos' presidential filing.
The Free Mobile Disaster Alert Act states that only certain government agencies are mandated to send out disaster alerts through mobile phone messages. These agencies include the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), and the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
The "hijacking" of the alert system is already being probed by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC). Additionally, James Jimenez, spokesperson for the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), stated that the use of the emergency alert system for political promotions or propaganda is "ill-advised."
