Vice President Leni Robredo has organized two teams to extend assistance to residents affected by Severe Tropical Storm Maring.

"We have formed two teams already to assist those needing help in Cagayan/Isabela and in Benguet/La Union. Ready to deploy our teams already to provide relief assistance but we need help from those who have equipment for rescue ops," Robredo posted in social media.

"We're receiving additional reports that rescue of trapped residents also needed in Candon City and other parts of Ilocos Sur," she said, adding that she has received word that members of the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines conducting rescue operations.

Robredo also sought for help from individuals or groups that can provide equipment to conduct rescue.

"We were assured rescue operatons by the PNP and AFP now ongoing. Those who have rubber boats near the Area, baka puwede po mahiram muna," she added.

Maring, based on the update posted by PAGASA late Monday evening, made landfall in the vicinity of Fuga Island, Cagayan and is now moving away from the Babuyan archipelago.

Nine provinces have been placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 while 15 areas are under TCWS No. 1. -- BAP, GMA News
