35% of adult Fils have received 1 COVID-19 vaccine dose —SWS

PHILIPPINE government aims to vaccinate 80% to 90% Filipinos in seven (7) months or by May of the coming year 2022.

Social Weather Stations survey showed estimated 25 million adult Filipinos have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

SWS poll, conducted from September 27 to 30, shows that 35% of adult Filipinos have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine shot.

Of the 35%, 17.7 million Filipinos or 25% are already done with their second jab, while 10% or 7.3 million are on their first dose.

The percentage of adults already vaccinated with at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine was highest in Metro Manila with 71%, followed by Balance Luzon with 36%, Mindanao with 25%, and Visayas with 21%.

Compared to June 2021, the percentage of those who received at least a dose rose in the National Capital Region by 44 points from 27%.

In terms of educational level, percentage of those vaccinated with at least a dose was highest among college graduates with 49%, followed by junior high school graduates with 37%, elementary graduates with 31%, and non-elementary graduates with 23%.

The survey was conducted using face-to-face interviews of 1,500 Filipino adults, with 300 each in Metro Manila, Visayas, Mindanao, and 600 in Balance Luzon.

The sampling error margins were at ±2.5% for national percentages and ±6% for Metro Manila, Visayas, Mindanao, and ±4% for Balance Luzon.

Metro Manila residents were finally allowed to go out of their homes with their families after the region was placed under alert level 2.

While  some families trooped to malls and parks, others went early Christmas shopping in Divisoria. Physical  distancing was not observed in some areas.

Several people were also seen not wearing their face masks and face shields properly.

The National Capital Region officially eased to Level 2 on November 5 and will remain until November 21. 

The Department of Health reported 2,605 new cases of COVID-19, bringing Philippines' total caseload to 2,803,213, as two laboratories failed to submit data on time.

DOH said new cases brought country's active case count to 33,526, of which 66% were mild, 5.7% are asymptomatic, 9% were severe, and 3.8% were in critical condition.

Total recoveries climbed to 2,725,257 after 3,901 more patients defeated respiratory illness.

The death toll rose to 44,430 with 191 new fatalities.

DOH noted that 13 duplicates were removed from the total case count, while 151 cases previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

Data from DOH also showed  42% of the country's intensive care unit beds are utilized, while 25% of mechanical ventilators are also in use.

In Metro Manila, 38% of ICU beds were in use, while 24% of the ventilators were utilized.
