"Total of 20 cases ang tinamaan ng diarrhea outbreak at may isa kaming death na 9-year old," Tanza, Cavite municipal health officer Ruth Punzalan said a nine-year-old child and an 11-month old baby died after a diarrhea outbreak was reported in three barangays in Tanza, Cavite. Outbreak were in Calibuyo, Punta 1, and Sahud Ulan.
Two cases of cholera were also detected, she added.
Twenty diarrhea cases were recorded, Punzalan said. The outbreak started a week before October 19.
The victim was brought to a hospital for treatment but died the next day due to severe dehydration, she added.
Punzalan said based on their investigation, of seven water sources in Tanza, five were contaminated. These were shallow wells, she said.
The affected communities were given assistance to get access to clean water.
