PASAY CITY -- After personally leading the successful launch of two Malasakit Centers in the municipalities of Culion and Brooke's Point on November 3 and 4, respectively, Senator Christopher "Bong" Go continued his relief efforts to struggling Filipinos in Palawan as his team organized series of distribution activities in Brooke's Point, Bataraza, and Narra on Thursday, November 4.

In a video message, Go, who serves as the Chair of Senate Committee on Health and Demography, reminded the residents to make health a priority, especially during the ongoing national health emergency.

He then offered assistance to those who are in need of immediate hospital care as he encouraged them to visit any of the three Malasakit Centers in Palawan located at the Ospital ng Palawan in Puerto Princesa City, Culion Sanitarium and General Hospital in Culion, and Southern Palawan Provincial Hospital in Brooke's Point.

The Malasakit Center is a one-stop shop which streamlines the process of acquiring aid for medical expenses from the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Health, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Philippine Charity Sweepstake Office. The program, which Go initiated in 2018, has since benefitted more than three million Filipinos nationwide.

Handa pong tumulong 'yan sa ating kapwa Pilipino," he added.

Furthermore, Go encouraged all eligible residents to get vaccinated to protect themselves from the threat of coronavirus, and to help the government attain population protection and herd immunity soon.

Go's team held the relief operations at Brooke's Point Municipal Octagon, Bataraza Municipal Coliseum, and Narra Municipal Sports Complex. They grouped the beneficiaries into smaller batches to ensure a well-coordinated distribution, in compliance with the health and safety protocols.

The outreach team handed out grocery packs, meals, vitamins and masks to 2,823 beneficiaries, composed of indigents and typhoon victims. They also gave selected recipients computer tablets, new pairs of shoes, and bicycles.

A team from DSWD then provided the residents with separate assistance through its existing programs to further help them.

As Vice Chair of Senate Committee on Finance, Go supported various projects that aim to boost the economy of the province, such as several road concretions and improvements in Brooke's Point and the construction of a seawall, flood control structures, and several roads in Narra.

He also supported the construction of multi-purpose buildings in several islands in the province; construction of roads in Aborlan, Coron, Sofronio Española, Quezon and Rizal; installation of drainage and small water impounding in Cagayancillo; acquisition of dump trucks in Coron and Dumaran; and the acquisition and installation of street lights in Linapacan, Magsaysay and Puerto Princesa City.

Go then thanked the local officials of each municipality for their hard work and determination in assuring that their respective communities quickly recover from the challenges brought by the pandemic.

On the previous day, Go personally led the distribution activities to thousands of residents in Culion, Busuanga and Puerto Princesa City. (OSBG)
