The National Democratic Front-Eastern Visayas (NDF-EV) criticized the recent push for regional amnesty for "NPA surrenderers" as yet another deceptive move to lure Red fighters into surrendering without addressing the roots of the armed conflict.

"The so-called legal safeguard under the amnesty is conditional. Ultimately, it seeks to deceive revolutionaries to overturn their principles and work in cahoots with the military as if it will exempt them from fascist retribution," the NDF-EV said.

"But with or without amnesty, the trigger-happy AFP and Philippine National Police (PNP) will not be stopped from killing their surrenderers, as they have done so, left and right."

The NDF-EV added that Duterte's mercenary forces in the region are sure to take a ride to this localized amnesty proposal to coopt revolutionaries into submission and further sabotage the peace process between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) and the NDFP.

The church sector and other peace-loving citizens can meaningfully participate in attaining peace by lending their voice for the return of the peace talks between the NDFP and the GRP, which pushes for long and lasting peace anchored on social justice and not on the sheer surrender of arms by virtue of an amnesty. All democratic forces must advance their peace agenda and bring down the Duterte regime, the main enemy of peace in the land.

"No amnesty is possible under the tyrannical Duterte regime which declared all-out war against the revolutionary movement instead of engaging in peace negotiations, performs overkill operations even against those incapable to fight such as the elderly and sick NDFP consultants, and whose twisted idea of peace is the silence after the firing of guns," the NDF-EV ended.
