PASAY CITY -- Senator Christopher "Bong" Go's office resumed its relief operations for indigent residents of Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur on Wednesday, November 17, following a similar effort in the towns of Santa Josefa and Veruela on November 12.

"Mga kababayan, magtulungan, magmalasakit at magbayanihan po tayo sa ating kapwa. Huwag tayo mawalan ng pag-asa dahil nandidito ang gobyernong palaging nagmamalasakit sa inyo. Hindi kayo pababayaan ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte at ng administrasyong ito," Go reassured in video message.

Go's personnel handed out meals and masks to a total of 1,201 residents at the respective covered courts of Brgy. Santa Irene and Brgy. Poblacion. They gave selected residents bicycles for their daily commute, as well as computer tablets for children's use in blended learning activities.

Moreover, in separate distributions, the Department of Social Welfare and Development provided financial assistance, while the Department of Agriculture gave away vegetable seedlings.

The Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Trade and Industry and the Technical Education and Skills Development, in turn, conducted assessments of potential beneficiaries for their respective assistance programs.

The senator continued his message by reminding all eligible Agusanons to get vaccinated to help the country attain population protection leading to herd immunity against the coronavirus. He recently appealed to the government to provide fully-vaccinated members of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program with cash incentives in a bid to support the national vaccine effort.

The lawmaker also offered to help the sick and injured. He urged those with medical concerns to avail of the services of the Malasakit Center at the Democrito O. Plaza Memorial Hospital.

The Malasakit Center is a one-stop shop that aims to help patients reduce their hospital bills to the lowest possible amount by covering various patient services and expenses. Its partner agencies include the DSWD, Department of Health, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.

The program was institutionalized under Republic Act No. 11463, also known as the "Malasakit Centers Act of 2019", which Go principally authored and sponsored in the Senate prior to President Duterte signing it into law in December 2019.

The senator concluded his message by thanking Mayor Frederick Mellana, Vice Mayor Jesusimo Ronquillo and other local officials for helping their constituents.

As Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, Go has supported numerous infrastructure development initiatives in Agusan del Sur. These initiatives include the construction of La Purisima to San Juan Road and multi-purpose buildings in Barangays Las Navas and La Union; completion of the evacuation centers in Barangays Las Navas and Mapaga; and rehabilitation of the Barangay San Jose-Barangay La Perian Road and Barangay Poblacion to Sitio Opao Las Navas Road in Prosperidad.

He likewise supported the provision of funding for the construction of multi-purpose buildings in Bayugan City and San Luis; construction of evacuation centers in Loreto and Talacogon; construction and improvement of existing roads in Bayugan City, Bunawan, San Luis and Veruela; concreting of local roads in Esperanza and La Paz; construction of riverbank protection structures for the Ihawan River in Loreto; improvement of the Adlayan Riverbank in San Francisco; installation of reinforced concrete pipe culvert with pavement widening in Trento; and purchase and installation of solar street lights in Esperanza.
