Fully-vaccinated senior citizens on Tuesday said they feel more protected against the coronavirus disease after being inoculated with booster shots of COVID-19 vaccines.

A report by Ian Cruz over "24 Oras" quoted a senior citizen couple, who had just taken their booster shot at a vaccination site in San Juan City.

The Filamor couple switched to Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines as their booster shots after being fully vaccinated using Sinovac's CoronaVac vaccine.

"We think that Pfizer is the best booster shot," said Leny Filamor.

"More protection ito kapag lalabas kami (It will give us more protection when we go out.)," Leny's husband, Villamor Filamor said.

Suy Tin Lim, who is 77 years old, was injected with an additional dose even as he still has a few days to go before the six-month interval from his last dose. Suy said his doctor allowed him to get the booster shot.

The Department of Health (DOH) had recommended that booster shots must be taken at least 6 months after the last dose.

However, 71-year-old Donna Tulad, who previously vaccinated with Sinovac, said she stuck to the China-made vaccines for her booster because it had no side effects.

Health experts had advised the public to consult first from health workers when switching to a new brand of COVID-19 vaccine.

Over 800 older adults and 200 people with comorbidities were inoculated with booster shots in San Juan City.

Over the weekend, the DOH had approved the expansion of giving additional vaccine dose to senior citizens as well as people with comorbidities.--Consuelo Marquez/LDF, GMA News
