The Philippines on Monday logged 14,546 new COVID-19 infections, pushing the country's total caseload to 3,560,202.

Data from the Department of Health (DOH) also indicated that the new infections include 10,203 (70%) that occurred from January 18 to January 31, 2022.

The DOH data also showed that top regions with cases in the recent two weeks were the Davao Region with 1,381 or 14%, Metro Manila with 1,053 or 10% and Central Visayas with 973 or 10%.

The fresh infections also brought the active cases to 190,818. Of these, 8,239 are asymptomatic, 177,584 are mild, 3,126 are moderate, 1,540 are severe and 329 are critical.

The nationwide positivity rate was at 28.4% with 52,013 total COVID-19 tests conducted.

Also, the Philippines recorded 26,500 additional recoveries and 112 new fatalities, bringing the total recoveries and total deaths to 3,315,381 and 54,003, respectively.

Of the 112 new deaths, 107 occurred in January 2022 (96%), 2 in November 2021 (2%), 2 in October 2021 (2%), and 1 in May 2021 (1%) and 1 in January 2021 (1%) due to late encoding of death information to COVIDKaya.

Meanwhile, the DOH figures showed that the nation's occupancy rate for intensive care unit beds was at 46% while utilization rate for mechanical ventilators was at 25%.

In the National Capital Region, 38% of ICU beds are occupied while 26% ventilators are in use.

The DOH also deleted 24 duplicates, including 11 recoveries, in the total case count. It also reclassified 33 recoveries into deaths.

All laboratories were operational on January 29, 2022 but three of them failed to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.

In the last 14 days, the DOH said the three non-reporting labs contribute, on average, 0.5% of samples tested and 0.1% of positive individuals. -- BM, GMA News
