THE Philippines logged 17,677 new cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) on Tuesday, its lowest in nearly three weeks, but pushing the total number of active infections to 247,451, according to the Department of Health (DoH).

The last time the count fell to about 17,000 was on Jan. 6, 2022 when 17,220 were reported in a single day.

Tuesday's tally puts the overall cases in the country at 3.46 million.

Positivity rate is at 37.2 percent, with 43,874 samples processed by 306 laboratories. Six others were not able to send their data on January 23.

Of the active cases, 98.1 percent or about 242,000, are mild or asymptomatic and 308 are critical.

Total number of recoveries is at 3.159 million, including 33,144 new ones.

The death toll is at 53, 598, including 79 new fatalities.

The National Capital Region (NCR) recorded its occupancy rate for Covid-19 patients at the intensive care units (ICUs), isolation beds and wards at 44 percent, 45 percent and 51 percent respectively.
