Cash assistance from the local government unit (LGU) of Ligao City, Albay were given to at least 40 senior citizens, who have reached the age of 90, 95, and 100 years old.
According to Irene B. Rancho, Ligao City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) chief, the cash amounting to Php25,000, will be given to the elderlies on their birthday.
The CSWDO chief also said that among the 40 elderlies, 38 are nonagenarians who are reaching the age of 90 and 95, and two centenarians are also expected to receive the same amount of cash incentive this year.
Last January 2022, the first centenarian who received his cash incentive last was Joaquin Cedro, from Barangay Amtic.
The program is part of the lgu's Centenarians and Nonagenarians Cash Incentive Ordinance No. 2021-024 that was signed by City Mayor Patty-Gonzales-Alsua, which aims to help senior citizens aged 90, 95 and 100 years old sustain their basic needs and medications.
