I read in Twitter to never block your family or friends in social media just because they are DDSs and/or Marcos Apologists. I was both in 2016.
Yup, I grew up hearing praises for the late President/ dictator Ferdinand Marcos through my full-blooded Ilocano father. Since elementary days, I believed that history books were not showing the true story behind Martial Law. Since then, I believed the idea that Ninoy Aquino was shot dead by none other than a relative of his wife to stir the anger of Filipinos - and orchestrated the very first People's Power in connivance with former-President Fidel V. Ramos. "Kaya tingnan mo, siya ang sumunod na presidente after Cory," this I heard many times since I was young.
To be honest, I am not well-versed in politics. History subject is actually my worst grade during schooling because aside from the fact that I am having a hard time memorizing all the names, places and dates, in my mind, what's in it for me? Why is it even relevant in my life?
Fast forward to 2015, when my daily routine revolves around work and kdramas, I remember the feeling of being hyped by my news feed about "Change is coming." For once, I became quite interested with what's happening in the government and felt that at last, some things will change. Joining the bandwagon with I-thought-real-people-turned-trolls-pala, ang saya lang nun, pucha! I honestly find PDuts' actions and speech funny and super cool because he is way different from the norm. Hindi pormal. Pero hindi ko din maintindihan. Lol.
Though I never posted about my support and I never get involved in talks about it, I voted for him in 2016. Pak. I was one of the reasons why we have him today. Sorna.
Just like the past administrations, many things have happened; natural calamities, terrorist attacks, government scandals, I'm used to it. I was not even affected by the non-renewal of ABS-CBN franchise because frankly, I am not watching any local TV program except volleyball games. Oppa is life for me, mianhe. I realized that if we are not personally affected by a certain circumstance, we do not get involved about it 'no?
So what really changed my mind?
The answer is Covid-19.
During the onset of pandemic when my feeds were flooded with frustrations about the poor government response to Covid-19, admittedly, I was not one of them. I gave him the chance to prove himself because truthfully, no leader of any country was ready for it. Everyone was caught off guard and in my head, who would have thought that a major disaster will happen?
Pero tae na, anong petsa na? Naka-move on na lahat ng bansa. Pero tayo, hanggang ngayon, nganga.
Now, let's talk about BBM naman. If you are a BBM supporter and still reading at this point, tell me why you are rooting for him.
"Ibabalik daw kasi 'yung gold 'pag nanalo siya," said by my dad months ago.
Don't tell me that BBM have been cheated last election. I have already researched about it and the case was elevated up to Supreme Court, and it was already dismissed. Do your own homework.
No need to tell me that his father's sins are not his wrongdoings, because I definitely agree to that. Hindi porke makulit ang tatay ko eh makulit din ako. Having said that, don't ever tell me as well that you are going to vote for him because of his father's achievements. The duality. The nerve.
Let's take out Ferdinand Marcos Sr. in the picture. Let's even take out Martial Law and People's Power. Let's forget Marcoses, Aquinos, and Dutertes for a while; and let us see through BBM as he is. Alone.
Tell me what he is and what he has done to get your vote. As simple as that.
(And don't ever send me that link that shows all the achievements of his hometown including Milo Little Olympics Taekwondo Champion. Until now I wonder, coach ba siya?)
Because I'm telling you, I will not vote for any Marcos-related candidate who have not shown a single remorse for the victims of Martial Law. Parang ex lang 'yan na sinaktan ka pero walang pagsisisi. Papatawarin pero #NeverAgain. Cheret!
I would rather see him returning all the money stolen by his family to the Philippines - pambayad utang - and he'll have a bit of my respect. Then afterwards, he can prove to me that he is competent enough to lead the country, plus he has the right values to look up to. That's the order of priority.
Then maybe, in the far future, I might vote for him. ♡
...
P.S. I honestly do not have the energy to tell why I am not voting any Duterte ally. Don't get me started, pero sige, eto na lang. I will not vote any Duterte-related candidate who still thinks that Dolomite is way important for the overall health and well-being of the Filipinos during a pandemic. Jusko hindi nakakatawa. The rest, bahala ka na. Nakakasuka.
