El idioma forma parte integral de la Identidad Nacional. Con cerca de doscientas lenguas (cada una con su propio dialecto), nuestro país es un caso especial. Cada idioma representa su propio trasfondo cultural, independiente del resto. Pero en tres siglos, el idioma español fue capaz de entretejer todos estos grupos lingüísticos en un hermoso tejido de unión llamado FILIPINO. Si la expresión "unidad en la diversidad" es cierta, entonces la lengua española supo demostrarlo en nuestro archipiélago. Por eso insisto en que para llegar a ser un completo filipino, es indispensable aprender español. Algunos podrían considerar esto como nada más que romanticismo hasta el punto de ser chovinista, pero es lo que es. Ya es la Historia la que habla.

Language forms an integral part of one's National Identity. Our country, with close to two hundred languages (with each having its own dialects) is a special case. Each language represents its own cultural background, independent from the rest. But in three centuries, the Spanish language was able to weave all these language groups into a beautiful fabric of togetherness called the FILIPINO. If the expression "unity in diversity" holds true, then the Spanish language was able to prove it in our archipelago. That is why I insist that in order to become a compleat Filipino, learning Spanish is indispensable. Some might consider this as nothing more but romanticization to the point of being chauvinistic, but it is what it is. It is already History that speaks.
