During the evil Spanish times, there were only five kinds of taxes:
1) cédula - personal income tax which was paid by the head of the family at a fixed rate of five reales a year.
2) licencia - to allow a person to practice a profession or start a business.
3) aduana or vandala - to allow a person to sell local or export and import products.
4) amillar - land tax.
5) herencia - inheritance tax.
Now that we're on our own, free from Spanish repression (many, many thanks to Uncle Sam), we have imposed so many taxes upon ourselves that it might take Chris Rock several days to count them all before he could put out a statement regarding The Slap.
