MANILA, Philippines – Journalist Karen Davila has casted her vote for the 2022 elections as the three-day local absentee voting (LAV) kicked off on Wednesday, April 27.
In her Facebook post, Davila said "Local Absentee Voting is MANUAL kaya nagdala ako ng kodigo for my senatorial list – para mabilis ang pila! Around 6 voters allowed at one time."
The LAV will run from April 27 to 29 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and participants are to vote for national positions only (president, vice-president, senators, and party-list group)
84,357 individuals who have been approved to take part in the LAV belong to the following sectors (based on a report by Rappler)
Members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) who will be assigned to perform election duties in places where they are not registered voters
Media practitioners who will not be able to vote on May 9, 2022, because they are covering the conduct of elections
Government officials and employees, including those who will be assigned abroad to perform election duties
Comelec Commissioner George Garcia said that the first day of the LAV is "generally peaceful" with "no untoward incident reported".
"We are also happy that the members of the media were able to vote at our regional office here. They have their own 'kodigo' since they will be voting manually," Garcia added.
"Hopefully, when May 9 comes, it will be the same. Hopefully, our elections will be peaceful, fast and at the same time, everyone is protected from coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19)," the commissioner said.
"The counting and canvassing of votes on May 9 at 7 p.m. will be done by the Committee on Local Absentee Voting (CLAV), the venue will be on the 3rd and 4th floors of the Bureau of Treasury, Palacio del Gobernador, Intramuros. All candidates will be notified so they can send their watchers to observe," Garcia also said earlier.
Davila included in her post a photo of the official ballot for local absentee voters.
She ended her post saying, "Your vote is sacred. Vote wisely. Vote for leaders who will serve the country & not their own personal interests."
