TANZA, Cavite --On Labor Day, presidential candidate and Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko" Moreno said he will focus on creating more jobs for the Filipino people should he win the presidency.
"Importante 'yun na makapag trabaho ang tao dahil maraming nawalan ng trabaho," Moreno said in a chance interview.
The Aksyon Demokratiko standard-bearer said he also seeks to increase the standard wage of workers.
"'Yun bang sweldo ng manggagawa sapat ipamuhay sa kanyang pamilya o kaya diba sabi ko bababaan ko ang buwis ng kuryente, bababaan ko ang buwis ng krudo para mapaura ang bilihin," he said.
Asked if he was amenable to the proposed P750 minimum wage, Moreno said he was okay with it "for now."
"Basta ngayon, okay tayo diyan kung kakayanin ng mga negosyante," he said.
"Meron akong isang approach. Mabuhay ang negosyo... 'wag na magsara, maka survive ang negosyo, makadagdag ng trabaho, tapos dahil kulang na ang sweldo ng tao, babaan ko 'yung mga presyo ng pangunahing bilihin at gastusin ng tao."
He said that once the country passes this, he will look into ending contractualization and creating permanent jobs.
"But for now, unawaan eh," he said.
Vilma-Ralph endorsement
Meanwhile, Moreno said the support of Senator Ralph Recto and Deputy Speaker Vilma Santos-Recto remains behind him.
He made the remark when sought for comment about the courtesy visit of presidential rival and Vice President Leni Robredo to the couple.
"Hanggang ngayon naman. Ganon talaga ang mga disenteng tao na marunong tumanggap ng bisita. And I'm proud of Senator Ralph Recto and Congresswoman Vilma Santos. I'm very proud of them na marunong silang tumanggap ng bisita," Moreno said.
"It shows character eh. So I'm really proud of [the] Isko Moreno supporters, mga ordinaryong tao, kasi sila hindi nakikipag away, nakikinig, pero firm sa kanilang paniniwala," he added.
Recto had accompanied Moreno during his campaign activities in Batangas, with the latter even attending Recto's Team Bagong Lipa rally in Lipa as a guest. --LBG, GMA News
