After two years of a Covid hiatus, Vivid Sydney returns bigger and bolder! With more than 200 events, light installations, music performances and much more, this year's light festival signals to the world that Sydney is well and truly open again. Time to bring back locals and tourists alike into the city to help businesses who have done it tough over the last two years.
At 6:00 pm last Friday, the city lit up in awe inspiring style, alongside a spectacular firework display. I was at the Overseas Passenger Terminal directly opposite the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge to witness the start of Vivid.
Light installations dominate the sky with iconic CBD buildings as the backdrop, it was mesmerising.
Restaurants, bars and cafes are all in spirit of Vivid Sydney with their colourful street facades.
Just on of the many iconic buildings around The Rocks getting ready to welcome its guests.
Food trucks and pop-up kiosks dominate the open spaces near the Cruise Terminal serving all the favourites.
With its prominent stature and position, the MCA's dazzling display of lights is always a show-stopper. Very Instagrammable worthy!
Another landmark building in Circular Quay that I always check out during Vivid is the heritage listed Custom House. Their story telling by light display is amazing, educational and enthralling.
I walked along George Street on my way to Darling Harbour. Many buildings were specially lit up, made easy to appreciate by being a pedestrian/tram only zone on this part of George Street. Across to Darling Harbour which was full of Vivid action.
Darling Harbour light display is quite stunning and can be enjoyed from many places around the precinct.
In its 12th year Vivid Sydney started last Friday May 27 until Saturday June 18 with the lights on from 6pm until 11pm every night.
Venues for Vivid Sydney 2022 will be held across Circular Quay, Sydney's CBD, Barangaroo, The Rocks, Darling Harbour, Walsh Bay, Darling Quarter, Darling Square, Taronga Zoo and Luna Park.
