"In the interest of the service and pursuant to Memorandum Circular No.1...dated 30 June 2022 issued by the Office of the President through the Executive Secretary, De Lemos as the next-in-rank and most senior official, is hereby designated as the officer-in-charge of NBI," Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin "Boying" Remulla has appointed National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Deputy Director for Administration Medardo De Lemos as officer-in-charge (OIC) of NBI.
De Lemos' appointment takes effect "immediately and shall remain in force until further orders," Remulla said in a Department Order dated July 1,2022.
De Lemos, a career officer who had been with NBI for almost 40 years, stays as the temporary head of the agency until Malacañang or Remulla finds a new replacement.
According to Remulla, De Lemos "shall perform and discharge duties and responsibilities of the office until 31 July 2022 or until replacement has been appointed or designated whichever comes first."
De Lemos was regional director of the NBI's Central Visayas Regional Office when he received commendations for neutralizing the notorious Alvin Flores robbery gang in 2009.
