Rehabilitated park launched in Pasig City

"We will help LGUs in identifying more places such as easements to be converted as open parks," the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) launched rehabilitated park in Pasig City as part of agency's Adopt-A-Park project.
Barangay San Joaquin's Buting Linear Park, an 800-meter open space, was rehabilitated by MMDA as part of its program to make open spaces in Metro Manila into functional green parks and develop underutilized parks.
The park now includes riverwalk, green areas and play areas that include playsets for kids and an exercise equipment zone for adults.
Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto said open spaces and playgrounds are important in promoting child safety and overall health of residents.
"These open spaces are good for both physical and mental health of PasigueƱos living around the area," he said.
The Buting Linear Park, located near San Joaquin Pasig River Ferry Station, will benefit residents of Barangays Buting and San Joaquin. It is one of the 24 parks across Metro Manila that MMDA is currently constructing and rehabilitating.
The first park rehabilitated under Adopt-A-Park Project is the MMDA-Valenzuela City Friendship Park in Barangay Bignay, which was inaugurated in February.
MMDA acting director Baltazar Melgar said the agency would identify more areas to be rehabilitated as pocket parks in coordination with Metro Manila local government units (LGUs).
Under Adopt-A-Park project, LGU would provide location, design and cost estimate while MMDA sets criteria for site selection, provides funding and implements project.
The project is intended to curb urban decay and reduce effect of urban heat as well as provide safe and clean areas for family events and wellness activities.
