If you happen to be strolling along Ermita, you might want to drop by the National Library of the Philippines to take advantage of the opportunity to see some of the most valuable materials from NLP's Rare and Special Collections that played a huge role in Philippine history.
As part of celebrating its 135th Founding Anniversary, the NLP inaugurated and opened an exhibit last August 11, 2022, which will run until August 31, 2022, and is open to the public for free.
Feel closer to our national hero, Dr. Jose Protacio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda, as you get to see the original manuscripts of some of his famous works, the Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, that attested that the pen is mightier than the sword. His delicate penmanship can also be seen when you view the original Letter of Rizal to Ferdinand Blumentritt.

Other notable works under the custody of NLP's Filipiniana Division included in the exhibit are De Molucis Insulis (the first book written on the Philippines after Magellan's expedition), The Philippine Incabula (printed works produced by the native press when printing in the country is still in its infancy), Acta de la Proclamacion de Independencia del Pueblo Filipino (Act of Declaration of Philippine Independence), Philippine Insurgent Records, and many other important books, documents and photographs that have played a significant role in the Philippines' culture, history, and heritage.
