Facility for disaster resilience and peace security resources
MinDA eyes partnership with space agency for Mindanao Command Center
Davao City – The Mindanao Development Authority expresses interest to work with the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) for the creation of a Mindanao Command Center, a one-stop facility for disaster resilience and peace security resources for the island region.
PhilSA was established in 2019 through Republic Act No. 11363 or the Philippine Space Act to address all national issues and activities related to space Science & Technology (S&T) applications.
MinDA Secretary Maria Belen Acosta eyes PhilSA as among the agencies that can provide evidence-based, and real-time data for the command center.
Director General Joel Joseph Marciano, Jr. presented to MinDA Secretary Maria Belen Acosta the replica of the Diwata 2 satellite, one of the first Philippine microsatellites and the first satellite built and designed by Filipinos.
"We see Mindanao as a good space point because of its location, and we are looking forward to a possible expansion here," Marciano said.
