Filipinos must stay vigilant and remain cautious when it comes to their online activity. The Philippine National Police warned the public about clickbait links sent through direct and personal messages. PNP singled out the "Ikaw ba 'tong nasa video?" scheme which has been making rounds online.
Col. Jean Fajardo, spokesperson of the Philippine National Police, told Filipinos to ignore spam messages coming from TikTok and Facebook accounts they don't personally know.
The "Ikaw ba 'tong nasa video" scheme is potentially a phishing scheme. Fajardo said that the link will redirect the user to another page or account which will try to access information regarding one's personal accounts.
She also said that the PNP Anti-Cybercrime group is currently tracking the group that's responsible for the online scheme. "The PNP Anti-Cybercrime group is now looking at the possibility na iisang grupo, yung behind this kumakalat na nga sa Tiktok, na ang purpose po talaga ay victimize yung mga mahihilig talaga dito sa different social media accounts."
Fajardo also disclosed the challenge PNP is facing when tracking down similar groups. "Problema po ngayon ng ACG natin na once nag-conduct na sila ng cyber patrolling to identify at kung naka-coordinate na sila dun sa mga service provider, na-takedown na kaagad. So yun yung isa sa problema ngayon."
Despite difficulties in tracking the group down, the PNP assured the investigators are exerting their best effort to take down the group.
