Private hospitals have yet to record an increase in hospital utilization rate amid the supposed spike of the COVID-19 positivity rate in the National Capital Region (NCR), a hospital group said Thursday.
During the public briefing, Private Hospitals Association of the Philippines (PHAPI) president Dr. Jose de Grano said this was because the symptoms given by coronavirus subvariants are mild to moderate.
"So karamihan po sa ating mga nagpapositive... ay hindi po sila nagpapa-admit talaga unless meron po silang comorbidities. So kahit po siguro tumaas 'yung positivity rate, hindi po ramdam ng ating mga hospitals," he said.
(Most of those who test positive don't really have themselves admitted to the hospitals unless they have comorbidities. So even if the positivity rate increases, hospitals don't feel it.)
Earlier, independent monitoring group OCTA Research said that another wave of COVID-19 infections may start in NCR due to the spike in the positivity rate.
OCTA said the region's seven-day positivity rate jumped to 9.2% on November 22 from 7.4% on November 15.
De Grano said the hospital utilization rate in other regions also remains at low risk.
"Except sa Visayas, nakita natin na medyo tumaas ng beyond 25% 'yung Region VI and VII. Pero generally po sa ating mga private hospital hindi naman po tumataas ang COVID cases," he said.
(Except in Visayas, we saw that the utilization rate increased beyond 25% in Regions VI and VII. But generally, COVID cases in private hospitals did not really increase.)
