MANILA, Philippines —The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) unveiled new banknotes carrying the signatures of the Philippines' 17th President, Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., and the BSP's 6th Governor, Felipe Medalla, on Wednesday, December 7.

"The local currency has borne the signatures of the President of the Republic of the Philippines and the Governor of the Central Bank of the Philippines since 1949."

BANGKO SENTRAL NG PILIPINAS (BSP)

According to the BSP, their signatures would be placed on the P20, P50, P100, P500, and P1,000 banknotes that will be gradually distributed beginning in December 2022.

The design, size, and security features of the new banknotes will be the same as those of the current New Generation Currency (NGC) and the upgraded NGC.

During the event, Marcos Jr. made a statement assuring Filipinos that all public funds will be used wisely and responsibly for national development projects.

"Be assured that it is the policy of this administration, to ensure that every peso and every centavo that the government spends in its programs and projects will be to the benefit of all Filipinos."

 President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.

"So I convey my full support to all of our BSP officials and their employees. I also have complete confidence in your capability, competence, and integrity," he added.

The chief executive also urged the BSP and other agencies to step up efforts to combat counterfeiting and other unlawful activities, keep prices steady, strengthen banking reforms, and devise methods to maintain the public's interest at the top of the government's priority list.
