2022 is coming to a close. But before we bid goodbye to this year, here is a look back at what happened in the world of Philippine Radio. We will discuss the Top 10 radio-related events in the country.
1. X Marks The Spot
XFM (Yes2Health)
Last March, Yes2Health Advertising launched XFM, starting with the Tagum-based station formerly part of the now-defunct Radyo Ni Juan network. Since then, it expanded to various markets via local marketing agreement. Similar to its competitors Brigada News FM and Radyo Bandera, it airs a news and music format.
2. Jam's Awakening
The Awakening (RBC)
Last October, Jam 88.3 made its soft relaunch with a playlist revamp. It now focuses on hard rock and alternative rock music from the 90s and 2000s, reminiscing that of its defunct Friday program Slide. Last November 18, it launched its new Weekend programs, such as Lokal Jam, Noisy Neighbor and Vintage Jam. Prior to its relaunch, Jam axed several of its programs from June to September.
3. K-Lite's New Home
103.5 K-Lite (AMBS)
Last July 28, under the ownership of Villar-owned Planet Cable, 103.5 K-Lite moved its studios to Starmall EDSA Shaw. It also expanded its broadcast hours to 18 hours a day. Prior to its transfer, it launched its TV simulcast channel on Planet Cable and one of ALLTV's subchannels last May.
4. Return of RP2
Radyo Pilipinas 2 (PBS)
Last March 7, after 2 years off the air due to the pandemic, Radyo Pilipinas 2 918 returned on air.
5. Return Of Radyo Magasin
Radyo Magasin (PBS)
By the end of June, DepEd pulled the plug on the DepEd TV simulcast, marking the full return on DZRM. As of now, aside from its music programming, along with public information aired in between, it airs a simulcast of Radyo Pilipinas' Home Eco Nanay.
Topics 6 to 10 will feature new provincial stations.
6. Zagitsit's Move
Zagitsit News FM (Katigbak)
Last August 13, 9 months after resurfacing online, Legazpi-based Zagitsit News FM returned to terrestrial air via 101.9. It was formerly on 100.3 from .
7. K-Five
K-Five (5K)
Last November, the Bacolod-based station formerly known as Magic 106.3 returned on air, this time as K-Five. Managed by 5K Broadcasting, which runs the Sweet FM network in Visayas, it airs a Classic Hits format.
8. MisOr Radyo
MisOr Radyo (Tagolan LGU)
Last November 9, the Tagolan Municipal Government launched MisOr Radyo 87.5. It serves as the municipal's community station.
9. Uno To Latigo
Radyo Latigo (SJTIT)
Last May, Koronadal-based Radyo Uno 107.3 was relaunched as Radyo Latigo.
10. Newbies in GenSan
Big Radio
Mega News FM
Last October, two new stations in General Santos was launched: Big Radio 99.9 and 105.1 Mega News FM, the latter which was formerly an online site.
There may be some other events that I missed, but I'd rather not discuss any further.
