Silang dad disputed Calax property 'ranch' illegal
By J.Lo
"The structures there were found illegal," Silang, Cavite Mayor Kevin Anarna claimed structures built by company said to be holding up completion of Cavite-Laguna Expressway (Calax) project do not have required permits,
Uneco Land Corp. owns parcel of land government wants to purchase for Calax's Silang Interchange. The firm reportedly wants to be paid P50 to P60 million but Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has appraised property to be worth just P16 million.
Anarna said Uneco had no records on file with regard to building, fencing and other required permits for "ranch" built in the area.
"They didn't get any permits from us…so in the first place, structures should not have been built there… moreover, thrust of our government is for Silang to become 'horticulture capital of the Philippines,' so that said property must be dedicated to have garden only…having ranch there is prohibited," Anarna continued.
Failure to obtain right of way has stalled Calax project, with only 64 percent of affected segment said to have been finished.
"Despite this challenge, we are very willing to help MPCALA (Holdings Inc.) and the national government to fast-track opening of Calax Silang Interchange," Anarna said.
MPCALA is the developer and operator of Calax, which remains partially operational.
The target opening date of affected section has been moved several times, with first quarter of 2023 currently the latest target.
