El Presidente Bongbong Marcos dijo recientemente que se ha vuelto muy importante para el gobierno «salir y atraer inversiones a Filipinas porque esa es la única manera de que aumente la actividad económica y, por lo tanto, de hacer crecer la economía». Pero, ¿cómo podemos atraer inversores extranjeros con una constitución proteccionista? Las secciones 2, 10, y 11 del Artículo XII restringen la propiedad extranjera de la propiedad solamente al 40%, un gran desvío para los inversionistas extranjeros. Aparte de eso, esta cláusula proteccionista beneficia solo a pequeños grupos de interés (los llamados oligarcas). Muchos otros países ya han rehuido al proteccionismo y ahora están cosechando los frutos. Ya es hora de que nos deshagamos de estas cláusulas anticuadas de nuestra constitución defectuosa. Esa es la única manera.

President Bongbong Marcos recently said that it has become so important for the government "to go out and to attract investment into the Philippines because that is the only way for economic activity to increase and therefore to grow the economy". But how can we attract foreign investors with a protectionist constitution? Sections 2, 10, and 11 of Article XII restricts foreign ownership of property to 40% only, a huge turn off for foreign investors. Aside from that, this protectionist clause benefits only small interest groups (the so-called oligarchs). Many other countries have already shunned protectionism and are now reaping the rewards. It's high time that we get rid of these antiquated clauses from our faulty constitution. That is the only way.
