By J.Lo
"Meron tayong mga na-rescue na mga empleyadong hindi pinapauwi at nade-deprive ng basic needs at liberty," Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)Police Brigadier General Romeo Caramat said operatives closed down Tarlac-based Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) company believed secretly operating cryptocurrency investment scam.
In statement, Caramat said 851 workers ,351 foreign nationals and 500 Filipinos were arrested and rescued during the operation.
Authorities launched operation at Sitio Pag-asa, Barangay Anupul, Bamban, Tarlac around 5 in the afternoon in light of search warrant issued by Tarlac City Regional Trial Court Branch 63.
Investigators are identifying, processing, and examining all computer data found in seized pieces of evidence from operation, Caramat said.
Criminal complaint for violation of Securities Regulations Code of the Philippines in relation to Section 6 of Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 and Human Trafficking are being prepared against persons behind alleged illegal operation, the CIDG said.
The police are also preparing to launch manhunt operation against three more personalities involved in alleged scam.
The operation was conducted amid growing calls to abolish POGO industry due to its alleged links to crimes like kidnapping, illegal detention, prostitution, and money laundering.
President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. himself maintained POGOs might no longer be worth allowing if their conducts bring social cost to the country considering crimes linked to them.
Three suspected members of kidnap for ransom group preying on Philippine offshore gaming operations or POGOs have been arrested after they allegedly tried to abduct another victim.
Reports showed victim escaped after suspects were apprehended for parking in no-parking zone.
"While in transit, according to victim, at gunpoint, hinihingan siya ng P300,000 para i-release daw siya," said Police Colonel Froilan Uy, chief of Pasay City Police.
"Napadaan sila dito sa isang malaking establishment dito sa Pasay at nag-park sandali…tapos nakita sila ng security guard, dahil yung kanilang nahintuan ay no parking zone, while yung security guard ay papalapit, nakakuha ng timing itong ating victim na lumabas ng sasakyan, nagsisigaw, humihingi ng tulong, " he stressed.
Suspects reportedly tried to flee but were immediately caught by authorities.
Three sets of license plates, tie wraps, .45 caliber gun, and bullets were recovered from trunk of their car.
