BI facility head, personnel relieved
By J.Lo
"Because if it's this massive then definitely po there must be something going on…so napalitan po ang head and all people po inside facility ,pinagpapalitan po natin 'yan ng mga bago po na mga empleyado natin," Bureau of Immigration (BI) said spokesperson Dana Sandoval has relieved from posts head and other personnel of its warden facility after six cell phones were retrieved from Japanese detainee suspected of being mastermind of illegal activities in Japan, the agency's spokesperson said
BI said responsibility lies with head of warden facility.
The Department of Justice revealed six iPhones were taken from one of four Japanese nationals whom Japanese government had requested to be deported.
According to Sandoval, Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco did not authorize use of cell phones in the facility.
"Yes, ang paggamit po ng gadget sa warden facility natin pinapayagan po with prior approval ng commissioner. ..so kailangan po may authorization muna ng commissioner and may schedule po 'yan,..but nakita po nating marami pong mga gadgets doon and wala pa po, mula nung nag-assume po si Commissioner Tansingco, wala pa po siyang pinipirmahang any request or application for approval na paggamit po ng mga gadgets" she said.
Sandoval said Tansingco will also visit the facility Friday to inspect it for further improvements.
"And nakikita po niya na it's really something to be prioritized by the Bureau because it's concern already if it's being abused by these kinds of syndicates or criminals here in the country," she said.
The reported offers circulating on social media for removal of names from BI blacklist in exchange of P1 million to P5 million is scam, Sandoval said.
"Sa tingin po natin, isa po ito doon sa mga kumakalat na scams na nagi-invite po na mag-transact with them online," Sandoval said in an interview.
This was after an anti-crime watchdog said they received reports of online offers for the removal from the BI's blacklist.
Movement for Restoration of Peace and Order (MRPO) chairperson Ka Kuen Chua said offers were circulating on Chinese social media platforms.
"We noticed po, na mention po during Senate hearing that nakikita daw po itong mga advertisements na ito sa Facebook …so we're worried po na isa na naman ito sa mga scams na dati po naming ina-advise sa public," Sandoval said.
Further, Sandoval said they did not observe any irregularities in inclusion or removal of names from the blacklist.
"So far po wala naman po tayong nakikitang mga kakaibang activities doon sa lifting ng blacklist or nung mga inclusion ng blacklist and other such immigration transactions po," she said.
According to Sandoval, there are millions of foreign nationals included on the blacklist.
"Ito po ay different immigration violations… kasama na rin po diyan 'yung mga indigency, mga overstaying, and other such violations," Sandoval said.
Meanwhile, she said there are currently more than 300 foreign nationals detained at BI Warden Facility.
The facility can only hold around 100 foreign nationals.
As these developed Sandoval said use of fake access passes at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) has been a recurring problem.
BI authorities had intercepted an entry using fake access pass in 2014.
"I believe so po kasi in the past nakapag-intercept na po ang Bureau as early as 2014 ng mga ganitong insidente...so we see po that it's a recurring problem…mawawala po siya kapag nahuhuli, babalik na naman po after a while.. really cause for concern," she said.
