MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-PAGASA launched the first Green Climate Fund Project Multi-hazard Impact-based Forecasting and Early Warning System for the Philippines Project (MH-IBF-EWS or IBFPh Project) to have a nationwide system to be used in disasters such as severe flooding, landslides, severe wind and storm surge.
According to DOST Secretary Renato Solidum, due to worsening global warming, the country needs to better prepare for large scale disasters that may strike the country at any time.
According to him, through such a project, the public will be immediately informed of the science-based scenarios that may occur in an area that will be hit by a calamity so that the government and LGUs can take immediate action to understand its impact.
According to PAGASA, one of the major components of the project is the development of timely warning information specifically in vulnerable areas so that communities can be better prepared and reduce the severe effects of disasters.
Here, the IBF-Ph Project will be launched within five years in some vulnerable barangays in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; Legazpi City, Albay; Palo, Leyte; and New Bataan, Davao de Oro. The project is funded by $22-M with the Green Climate Fund Grant worth $10-M. #DOSTPAGASA #crownplazahotel #DILG #LGUTuguegarao #lguCagayan #lgulegaspicity #AlbayBicol #palo #leyte #NewBataan #DavaodeOro #thephippineseventnewstv #thephilippinepostnewstoday
