The Technological Institute of the Philippines in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology LAUNCHED the DALA Smart Lockbox system which is a solution for more convenient and orderly delivery and retrieval of parcels. DALA Smart Lockbox is a system of reception boxes that serve as a drop-off area for courier service personnel and a collection point for customers as an alternative to home delivery. "During the pandemic, this request was heightened because it was difficult for people to deliver in e-commerce. So this is a good solution to make it more convenient for the customers and also for the delivery boys because they can easily place the parcels and the customers can pick them up," said Usec. Leah Buendia, Department of Science and Technology. "In terms of convenience, of course, it's easier for them to pick it up in a place where they are comfortable. For example, from the office to the house, you just pass this smart locker installation to pick-up on your way home. Or maybe in terms of delivery, it is at your own convenience when you want to pick it up and what time you are available," said Dr. Enrico Paringit, Executive Director, DOST – PCIEERD. Due to this, delivery riders no longer need to wait for a long time before receiving the parcel or worry that the deliveries will not be received. They said this is also a solution for individuals who want to make a delivery but are careful about giving their personal information such as their address. But the question is how safe are our shipments with the DALA Smart Lockbox system? "It is handled properly. It is secure because it is placed in a locker that cannot be read. Unbreakable. Can't be stuck. Not stocked against other delivery items," added Paringit. The DALA Smart Lockbox system also has a security feature where it can only be opened by delivery personnel or the customer through a delivery code or one-time password received via text. "He can't just be opened by anyone. If you notice, the design of our DALA has no way to hold him outside," said Engr. Jennalyn Mindoro, Project Leader, DALA Smart Lockbox Project. "So it will only open once we have scanned the QR code or delivery code of our parcels that must be delivered to DALA," said Mindoro. For now, DALA's industry partner is still in contact with e-commerce platforms that want to avail of the said system. DOST funded the said project under the Collaborative Research and Development to Leverage Philippine Economy (CRADLE) program which is part of the Science for Change Program (S4CP). #dalasmartlockbox #dostphilippines #TIP #thephilippineseventnewstv #thephilippinepostbewstoday
