"We expect backlogs of license cards to be addressed quickly," Department of Transportation (DOTr) Undersecretary for administration and finance Kim de Leon said, adding notice of award was issued on June 21 and notice to proceed on June 26.
DOTr expects to spend P932.82 million to build 470 kilometers of new bicycle lanes across Philippines this year in line with its push to promote active transport.
In particular, DOTr will put up bike lanes in Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, Metro Manila, Southern Tagalog, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas and Davao Region.
As part of this campaign, DOTr yesterday held groundbreaking ceremony for expansion of bike lanes in San Fernando City, Pampanga.
Project costs P78.36 million for construction of 37.5 kilometers of bike lanes expected to be completed by end of 2023.
DOTr intends to build total of 2,400 kilometers of bike lanes nationwide by end of Marcos administration in 2028
DOTr expects around one million plastic driver's licenses to be delivered within two months.
DOTr awarded P219,240,000 contract to supply 5,220,000 plastic driver's license cards to winning bidder Banner Plastic Card Inc. on June 26, according to De Leon.
One million cards in two months is part of first tranche from Banner, he added.
Supplier is also expected to release around 100,000 plastic licenses by July's end.
New applicants will be prioritized for initial release, Land Transportation Office said.
