Drug surrenderee suspected in Bunduquin slay
By J.Lo
"We want to complete first all evidence including sworn statement of witnesses who positively identified gunman," Oriental Mindoro police director Col. Samuel Delorino said drug surrenderee has been tagged as gunman in recent killing of radio commentator Cresenciano Bundoquin in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro.
Delorino said Narciso Guntan and gunman were on police drug list and drug surrenderee, respectively.
Guntan died from head injuries after he fell off his motorcycle, hit by car driven by Bundoquin's son during chase. Gunman fled on foot.
Bunduquin was host of Balita at Talakayan aired over radio dwXR and other media outlets. He recently discussed local environmental issues.
Although task force formed to solve killing has identified gunman, Delorino refused to reveal his identity so as not to compromise ongoing manhunt.
Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla ordered National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to conduct parallel probe into killing of Bundoquin.
Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) executive director Paul Gutierrez said Remulla's directive aims to hasten resolution of the case "for us get clear picture of what happened and who are other persons who may have masterminded attack on Bundoquin."
Gutierrez met with Remulla to discuss developments in the case.
PTFoMS had earlier said aside from identified gunman, Isabelo Bautista, there are three persons of interest, including member of political clan in Mindoro.
Gutierrez said gunman and his cohort, who died when hit by car of victim's son who gave chase, were workers in local peryahan games in Mindoro.
"Emerging motive is proliferation of illegal gambling in province using peryahan as cover and politics, which Bundoquin criticized in his radio program," Gutierrez said.
He said Remulla ordered NBI to explore all angles, noting probe must not be limited to grudge as motive.
Bundoquin, radio commentator at Kalahi News FM and MUX online radio, was shot as he was about to open his store in Barangay Sta. Isabel.
