Wind power plant in Semirara Island- DMCI Power
By J.Lo
Semirara Island, Antique
"We are also looking at solar energy to augment supply in the island, but we are prioritizing wind resource development because it has shown most promise," DMCI Power Corp. (DPC) President Antonino Gatdula Jr. said off-grid electricity generator DMCI Power Corp. (DPC) plans to build wind power plant in Semirara Island, targets to start operations within next 15 months.
In regulatory filing, DMCI Holdings Inc. said DPC expects facility to have capacity ranging from 8 megawatts (MW) to 12 MW, with operational implementation within next 12 to 15 months.
This comes as wind resource study conducted by National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) found Semirara Island had some of best wind resources in the Philippines, with wind corridors between Luzon and Panay having good to excellent wind power density.
