Davao City -- chocolate capital of the Philippines

Support Chocolate Festival in SM, Mayor says

Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte expresses support to the cacao industry and that the Davao cacao farmers must benefit from the initiatives of government in advancing their cacao production. This was said by Councilor Bernard Al-ag who represented the Mayor during the opening of the 2nd Mindanao-wide Chocolate Fair spearheaded by SM.

The SM malls in Mindanao thru the chocolate festival will simultaneously celebrate the rich cacao and chocolate industries of the island through the 2nd Cacao Mindanao Artisan Chocolate Fair slated June 2-4, 2023. Mindanao's best chocolatiers will gather in one roof as SM Lanang, SM City Davao, SM City Mindpro, SM City Gensan, SM City Butuan, and SM CDO Downtown unite in a bid to put the whole Mindanao chocolate industry on the world map.

In the message of Mayor Duterte delivered by Councilor Al-ag, he conveys his gratitude to the management of SM City Davao together with the Philippine Cacao Board for spearheading anew this year's Chocolate Festival here in the Chocolate Capital of the country.

He cited that under the declaration of Republic Act 11547 on May 21 naming "The City of Davao as the Chocolate Capital of the Philippines", it has paved the way for the significant promotion of our agricultural resources, especially in the innovation of our cacao industry in Davao Region.

"Today, we are now globally recognized for the quality of our cacao products, and let this be an apt time to thank the steadfast support of the local, national, and international stakeholders that helped us attain this recognition," the Mayor said.

"We look forward that this festival will encourage more growers and entrepreneurs to venture and be part of the progressing cacao industry in the country," he added.

Mayor Duterte invited all sweet-toothed Dabawenyos and everyone to take part in the celebration and discover the reason why Davao City is the Chocolate Capital of the Philippines.

In Davao City, SM Lanang and SM City Davao joined hands with the City Government of Davao, Department of Agriculture, and the Philippine Cacao Board to showcase the region's top chocolatiers and cacao producers MS3, Dais Chocolate, Cacao Culture, and Cacao de Davao, Cocolibre Corp., Household Multipurpose Cooperative, Cacao City, Nutrarich Philippines, and Wit's Sweets & Savouries along with Park Inn by Radisson Davao at malls' The Atrium and The Annex Event Center, respectively. Different cacao producers and chocolate makers also fill the three-day Cacao Mindanao Artisan Chocolate Fair in both malls.
