After 16 years on the air, TeleRadyo will begin its slow transition June 30.
BRIEF HISTORY
TeleRadyo was established in April 2007 as a TV counterpart of the now-defunct DZMM 630, in which it broadcasts the live video feed of the station. While it wasn't the first to implement the concept, it became a hit for cable viewers.
Throughout the years, this concept was adopted by DZRH for RHTV (now known as DZRH TV), Radyo5 for AksyonTV (now under One PH), ABSCBN's provincial stations DYAB and DXAB, DZRJ for DZRJ RadyoVision and DWIZ for IZTV. Even a number of provincial stations adopted this concept as well.
PANDEMIC AND FRANCHISE REVOCATION
By the time ECQ was implemented on mid-March 2022, DZMM's regular programming was put on a halt. It began simulcasting sister channel ANC at times and vice versa.
On the evening of May 5, DZMM went off the air due to the cease and desist order of the NTC. However, after a few days, it went back on air, this time on cable and online under the TeleRadyo branding. DYAB followed suit not long after. Its graveyard shift consisted of replays of some of its programs.
On July 15, their hopes of going back to terrestrial air crashed after ABSCBN was denied a franchise. As a result, the network's retrenchment affected its radio operations as well. On August, a lot of its personalities bade their goodbyes and moved to various stations. Meanwhile, the following month, TeleRadyo Cebu was relaunched as a separate entity called Sibya TV.
The events didn't hamper TeleRadyo. The following year, it launched a number of new programs, such as On The Spot, and Sakto became the channel's flagship morning program.
The end of May 2022 marked TeleRadyo's return to digital free TV via one of A2Z Channel 11's subchannels. However, this didn't last as it was pulled out on November that year.
END OF THE ROAD
On May 23, 2023, it was announced that TeleRadyo will close shop on June 30 due to financial losses. On the other hand, ABSCBN inked a joint venture with Prime Media Holdings for a revival of its former frequency 630 AM. Over the following weeks, a number of personalities and shows bade their goodbyes.
The following month, according to reports, TeleRadyo won't close shop, but will be taken over by new management. On June 26, 630 AM went on air under the call letters DWPM with the tagline Para sa Mamamayan. This marks the beginning of a new venture on its old home.
