5 MPD cops tagged for extortion hunted

POLICE authorities have launched manhunt for Staff Sergeants Ryan Tagle and Jan Erwin Santiago, Cpl. Jonmark Gonzales as well as Patrolmen Jeremiah Sesma and Jhon Lester Reyes, all assigned with Manila Police District (MPD) District Police Intelligence Operations Unit (DPIOU).
Five members MPD operatives were accused of extorting P40,000 from owner of computer shop in Sampaloc recently.
MPD director Brig. Gen. Andre Dizon said woman, known only as Menay, was tagged as policemen's accomplice.
Police officers , all in civilian clothes, broke into computer shop owned by Herminigildo Mateo, 73, according to Ermita police station commander Lt. Col. Wilson Villaruel.
Villaruel said suspects introduced themselves as police officers who were conducting operation against online gambling.
Suspects allegedly took cash from Mateo and robbed computer shop of valuables.
Mateo said suspects allegedly demanded weekly protection money of P4,000, to be collected every Friday.
Following incident, Dizon ordered relief of all DPIOU personnel.
Administrative and criminal charges will be filed against five policemen.
Meanwhile, two policemen and three civilians accused of extorting money from Egyptian man were arrested in entrapment in Dasmariñas City in Cavite.
Cpl. Roderick Bajado and S/Sgt Randy Batonhinog were relieved from their posts at Dasmariñas and Imus police stations, respectively.
Two policemen and civilians identified as Nemecio Sevilla, Jacquiline Rubenacia and Jessa Rose Dalsaitan were apprehended after accepting P112,000 marked money from victim in Barangay Salitran IV at around 6 in the evening, police Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group director Brig. Gen. Warren de Leon said in report.
Five reportedly harassed victim and threatened to charge him with rape and ruin his reputation on social media unless he pays them P200,000.
Charges of robbery-extortion are being readied against suspects.
De Leon said Bajado and Batonghinog are facing dismissal from police force for committing grave offense.
