"Through effort of our personnel and support of PDEA, we successfully arrested claimant of this shipment," Bureau of Customs (BOC) District Collector Ricardo Morales ll confirmed authorities have arrested claimant of seized shipment containing P3.16 million worth of illegal narcotics in Makati City.
BOC discovered said contraband through profiling made by customs personnel in shipment declared as "two slice bread toaster" from Pennsylvania , United States.of America.
Shipment was then subjected to x-ray scan revealed suspiscious images, prompting Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) K9 Unit to conduct K9 sniffing, later on gave positive indications for presence of drugs.
Physical examination led to discovery of four pouches of white crystalline substances weighing 458 grams inside two (2) "dear morning" bread toaster.
Samples were turned over to PDEA for laboratory analysis, which later confirmed substance as Methamphetamine Hydrochloride or "Shabu", dangerous drug under Republic Act 165 or Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Joint elements of BOC-Clark and PDEA Region III conducted controlled delivery operation at consignee's address in Makati City which led to arrest of 29-year old male claimant.
"As we continue to implement stricter measures and amplify our vigilance, expect various modus operandi of smugglers will not slide under our watch."
Morales earlier issued warrant of seizure and detention against shipment for violation of Section 118 (g), 119 (d) and 1113 par. (f), (i), and (l)-(3) and (4) of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act in relation to R.A. 9165.
"Series of illegal drug apprehensions in Clark is proof that Bureau of Customs' is firm with its mission…rest assured we will continuously enhance border security measures and we are doing our best in frontline to curb smuggling," said Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio.
