1,793 cops opt to retire
By J.Lo
"We must admit many are concerned that their pension would be reduced," Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said in news briefing at Camp Crame PNP has intensified its information drive on proposed reforms in military and uniformed personnel (MUP) pension fund as 1,793 PNP personnel have filed applications for optional retirement so far this year.
Speaking to reporters, Fajardo said consultations across country are ongoing to get inputs and concerns from police officers on MUP reforms.
Fajardo said some police officers have chosen to file for early retirement to protect their pensions once MUP becomes law.
Data from PNP showed 1,793 police officers have filed for applications for optional retirement from Jan. 1 to July 13 this year.
For entire 2022, 2,449 police officers filed for optional retirement.
Mandatory retirement age of police officers is 56.
PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. said they are keenly monitoring progress of proposed measures likely to affect 228,000-strong police force and its retirees.
