Abiad ambush fall

"NANAD", former barangay chairman in Pasay City was alleged brain in shooting of Remate on-line photojournalist Rene Joshua Abiad. Police probe revealed from admission of detained suspect Eduardo Legazpi II, 31, also known as Bingbong, arrested by operatives of Quezon City Police District at cockpit arena in Barangay Tunasan in Muntinlupa City on July 7, QCPD director Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre announced in press. Abiad and some of his relatives wounded and his four-year-old nephew dead in Barangay Masambong on June 29 shooting. Suspected contract killer linked to ambush is in police custody. Legazpi was allegedly in possession of grenade and .45 caliber handgun at time of arrest. Police earlier said suspects were riding Toyota Vios and motorcycle. "During our investigation, we saw there were two motorcycles," Torre said. Apart from the former barangay captain, police are hunting down seven other suspects, including dismissed police officer from Manila whom Torre identified as certain Oca. Juan, Mata or Alexis, Marlon and SBoy. Legazpi's arrest was culmination of week-long manhunt that was result of an in-depth investigation of his activities prior to ambush on Abiad. Based on surveillance camera footage obtained by probers, Legazpi and other suspects escaped from ambush site in their vehicles by going to Quezon Avenue Skyway, exiting to San Pedro City in Laguna and proceeding to Magsaysay Road in Muntinlupa City. Torre said QCPD investigators, in coordination with Southern Police District, tracked down Legazpi with assistance of confidential informant. Attackers allegedly received P100,000 as payment for ambush, P15,000 of which went to Legazpi. Based on their investigation, Torre said personal grudge is likely motive as former barangay chairman suspected Abiad of being source of negative information against him. Legazpi is facing charges of murder and three counts of frustrated murder for ambush on Abiad and other members of his family. Alleged gunman in killing of radio broadcaster Cresenciano Bundoquin in Oriental Mindoro has surrendered, Department of Justice (DOJ) announced .Isabelo Bautista Jr. surrendered to National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and "voluntarily submitted himself for investigation after succumbing to pressure," according to DOJ spokesman Mico Clavano.Bautista was arrested on July 7 after Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro Regional Trial Court Branch 39 Judge Josephine Carrano issued warrants for his arrest on charges of murder and attempted murder.Bautista claimed he was not gunman who shot Bundoquin but vowed to cooperate with NBI to find out truth about incident.Bundoquin, a radio commentator at Kalahi News FM and MUX online radio, was shot dead on May 31 as he was about to open his store in Barangay Sta. Isabel in Calapan City.Before gunmen escaped crime scene, Bundoquin's son rammed his vehicle into their motorcycle, killing the driver.Two witnesses had identified Bautista as gunman.Bautista confirmed he and Narciso Guntan, who died when their motorcycle crashed as they escaped, are employees of certain Felix Solis, said to be biggest carnival financier and operator in Mindoro.DOJ Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla earlier ordered NBI to conduct parallel investigation into incident.
