650 workers rescued in Pasay POGO raid

"During raid, various individuals were caught operating digital platforms that were engaged in number of illegal online activities," Philippine Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC), executive director Undersecretary Gilbert Cruz said in message on Viber Philippine offshore gaming operator (POGO) hub in Pasay City allegedly involved in cybercrime activities was raided by lawmen wherein 650 employees were taken into custody.
Armed with eight warrants to seize, search and examine computer data from Manila court, agents of PAOCC, Department of Justice, National Bureau of Investigation and Philippine National Police raided Rivendell Gaming Corp. Inc. office located in five-story building at corner of Zamora and Gaitos streets
Cruz said raid was based on tip that POGO firm is scam hub.
Among these are love scams and "pig butchering," type of fraud people are lured into online relationships and subsequently into cryptocurrency scams.
Total of 650 workers of POGO firm, 464 Filipinos and 186 foreigners of various nationalities, were taken into custody.
Cruz said 300 of employees are men while rest are women.
Interesting that an employee was found to be Filipina who was rescued by Philippine government in Myanmar.
Investigation revealed company's operations were similar to POGO hub raided at Sun Valley Clark in Pampanga wherein 1,000 suspected victims of human trafficking were rescued.
Cruz said two POGOs had same character development manual and incentive mechanism.
"Only difference was absence of detention and punishment facility given that scammers are allowed to regularly go home," Cruz said.
Justice Undersecretary Nicholas Felix Ty had informant from inside who alerted them about illegal activities in POGO hub.
Hundreds of cell phones and computer sets were seized during operation.
