By J.Lo
"We believe that this can be achieved through partnerships with both public and private sector, so that together we can present opportunities to business owners as well as consumers, for safer, secure, convenient and profitable payment solutions that can boost domestic tourism industry," GCash Chief Marketing Officer Neil Trinidad said Philippine Travel Mart will mark its 34th edition at SMX Convention Center Manila from September 1 to 3,2023, promoting local tourist spots and travel packages, including trips to Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and Spratly Islands in West Philippine Sea.
Biggest and longest-running annual tourism fair organized by Philippine Tour Operators Association (PHILTOA) gathers hotels, resorts, travel agencies, airlines, tour operators and tourism offices to exhibit country's 17 regions and its destinations.
Among these offers are chartered expeditions to Spratly Islands in seven-day, six-night tour package in West Philippine Sea organized by Kalayan Tourism Development Center.
Tour package beginning in Puerto Princesa, Palawan includes stops in Lawak, Patag and Pag-asa Islands. Package is inclusive of an internet connection, full-board meals, massage and gear for water sports and recreational activities.
Another highlighted offer are trips to BARMM, comprising Basilan, Sulu, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Sur, and Maguindanao del Norte, with tour packages highlight region's unspoiled beaches, exotic food and distinct architecture.
PHILTOA first vice president Mary Ann Ong noted there is still strong demand for popular destinations like Baguio, Boracay, Cebu and Palawan, but they hope that through tourism fair, they can highlight other locations like Zamboanga Peninsula, Quirino and Region XII in Mindanao.
Individuals who drop by Philippine Travel Mart will be able to purchase discounts and deals that are only available for on-the-spot bookings.
As part of its vision to champion countryside development through digitalization, GCash and Provincial Government of Bohol aim to revitalize province's tourism industry through their joint campaign, Sulong Turismo.
Sulong Turismo will help boost tourism sector by integrating digital payment solutions in local tourism campaigns.
Local government units (LGUs) with popular tourist spots will be empowered to adopt convenient cashless payments in travel booking and accommodation, among others.
By leveraging these digital tools and highlighting their benefits, campaign hopes to enhance customer satisfaction, drive repeat visits, and invigorate overall tourist experience.
"We are proud to be part of Sulong Turismo initiative…financial inclusion towards economic growth has always been main goal of GCash," Trinidad said. Campaign was officially inaugurated through dynamic seminar and dialogue, where advantages of digitalized tourism industry were discussed, with particular focus on LGUs with prominent tourist destinations.
During event, Department of Tourism (DOT) unveiled plans for infrastructure development, dedicated tourism website and cutting-edge tourism app. These initiatives aim to incentivize tourism-related businesses to embrace digital payments, ultimately fostering growth and prosperity in the sector.
Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco addressed audience via video message during event commending efforts of GCash in promoting digital ecosystem to support local tourism.
Other distinguished guests who attended event included Bohol Gov. Erico Aristotle Aumentado, DOT Chief Tourism Officer Region 7 Dr. Gelena Asis-Dimpas, BSP Regional Head of Economic Affairs Greg Baccay, Philippine Information Agency Head Rey Anthony Chiu, Panglao City Vice Mayor Noel Hormachuelos, and Tagbilaran City Mayor Jane Yap.
During event, concept of tourism circuit was presented. Tourism circuit encompasses strategic route or itinerary that connects multiple tourist attractions within specific region.
This structured approach promotes region's diverse offerings and entices tourists to spend more time discovering unique destinations.
"Active participation of local businesses, including micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, market vendors and transport groups, further exemplified strong collaboration between public and private sectors in propelling region's tourism industry, we are very happy to be first municipality to have pioneered this initiative and we are hoping other municipalities would follow our lead," Governor Aumentado said
By promoting value of digital solutions in showcasing tourism sites, Sulong Turismo helps streamline operations, enhance accessibility and ensure sustainability, while offering seamless and enjoyable experience for both tourists and businesses alike.
