By J.Lo
"During time of Duterte we saw them become well-behaved, if not afraid," wtth recent controversies hounding Philippine National Police (PNP) due to alleged irregularities committed by some officers, Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) urged President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to apply iron first policy on PNP.VACC president Arsenio Evangelista said FMJ should consider what his predecessor, former president Rodrigo Duterte, did with PNP, which was to enforce iron fist policy that sowed climate of fear among police force. Evangelista made statement in response to latest issues facing PNP. Among these is killing of 17-year-old Jerhode Baltazar by policemen in Navotas City, police investigators said was case of mistaken identity. In another incident, anti-narcotics operatives of Imus police station in Cavite were charged with robbery after they allegedly looted house of retired teacher during anti-drug operation. And in Taguig, officer shot dead fellow policeman during heated argument inside city's police station. For Evangelista, FMJ should implement same policy to bring back discipline in police force. "From time to time, or most of the time, he should be visible on national TV , iron fist strong message to police which may create fear factor," he said. Evangelista lamented after FMJ took over leadership of the country, some police got involved in illegal drugs and other criminal activities. "Iillegal drug activities were able to reclaim streets of the country nationwide, police were again involved," he said. PNP stressed its internal disciplinary mechanisms are working, noting that 583 erring police officers were dismissed from service during first year of Marcos' term. PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said policemen were found guilty of committing grave offenses. She said 978 erring police officers were suspended without pay while 129 were demoted for various infractions.
