DESPITE being outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), Typhoon "Khanub" ("Falcon" in the Philippines) continues to enhance the southwest monsoon locally known as "habagat" by dumping heavy rain, especially over the Ilocos Region, Zambales and Bataan.
The weather system is expected to affect the western section of Luzon and Visayas until the weekend, forecaster Benison Estareja of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
"The typhoon-enhanced habagat is dumping heavy rains especially over Ilocos Region, Zambales and Bataan over the next two to three days," Estareja said.
The southwest monsoon is also bringing overcast skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon), Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) and the rest of Central Luzon, Pagasa said.
The rest of the country, meanwhile, will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to habagat and localized thunderstorms.

"Maybe over the weekend or after the weekend, most parts of the country will start to experience generally fair weather conditions," the Pagasa forecaster said.
The state-run weather agency said that at least two to three storms may enter PAR within this month.
