By J.Lo
"He no longer has right to carry gun and once we subject him to police operation he would face charges," Philippine National Police (PNP) public information office chief, Col. Jean Fajardo said in news briefing at Camp Crame PNP will release today name of sport utility vehicle (SUV) driver who drew gun on taxi driver during road rage incident in Barangay Punturin, Valenzuela City last month.
City police chief Col. Salvador Destura Jr. said PNP has informed SUV driver's family developments in the case.
Family has promised to convince driver to surrender to authorities, Destura stressed.
Police located taxi driver who figured in the incident. He will be given opportunity to confront suspect and provide his account of event, according to Destura.
Earlier this month, PNP had revoked SUV driver's firearms license.
Fajardo said SUV driver, whom she did not identify, must surrender his handgun after his license to own and possess firearm and permit to carry were revoked by Firearms and Explosives Office (FEO).
Fajardo warned motorist he will face charges of violating Republic Act 10591, Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition, if he does not comply.
Motorist , drove Toyota Fortuner, threatened taxi driver during traffic altercation in Barangay Punturin on Aug. 29,2023.
Video of incident was posted by lawyer Raymond Fortun on his Facebook page.
Based on PNP records, Fajardo said SUV driver has 9mm handgun registered under his name. She said FEO's punishment is perpetual disqualification from owning firearm.
Land Transportation Office (LTO) has subpoenaed owner of SUV figured in Valenzuela road rage incident.
LTO chief Vigor Mendoza ordered SUV's owner, a woman, to appear during hearing on Sept. 14, identify gun-toting driver and explain why she should not be held liable for traffic violations.
Registration of SUV, with license plate NBB-3135, was also suspended for 90 days, according to LTO.
"We would like to know who was driving at the time of the incident…we would also like to find out if vehicle had been sold or borrowed," Mendoza said in statement.
SUV's registered owner faces administrative liabilities for traffic offenses include reckless driving, being an improper person to operate motor vehicles and obstruction of traffic, he concluded.
