Ex-top cop hit drug test results
By J.Lo
"I am not addict… I am not user," former Mandaluyong police chief Col. Cesar Gerente vowed to clear his name as he disputed findings of Philippine National Police (PNP)'s Forensic Group that he is drug user.
Gerente was found positive during initial screening and confirmatory tests on same urine sample he submitted.
To prove his point, Gerente he immediately asked for another test, but his request was denied.
"They said it was same sample… would still be positive," he said.
Gerente then had himself tested by Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, facility accredited by Department of Health and National Bureau of Investigation, using different urine sample. He was found negative for illegal drugs.
He said possible reason he tested positive was his exposure to dangerous drugs seized in police operations. Another cause would be maintenance medicine he takes for his high blood sugar.
Gerente vowed to clear his name, saying being tagged as drug user has taken toll on his wife and children.
Brig. Gen. Constancio Chinayog, PNP Forensic Group director, maintained they will stick to their findings t Gerente is a drug user.
"Results are out so he will just have to undergo process…he should face whatever charges are thrown at him," Chinayog told reporters in news briefing.
Chinayog said PNP Forensic Group will recognize only its test results and not findings of other agencies using different urine sample.
